The long awaited Diablo 2 Resurrected launched on September 23, 2021 but after just over a month, some fans are growing tired of the game. After a rocky release a consistent server problems, fans are hungry for the Ladder season to officially start so their grind really matters.
Ladder and Non-Ladder – What’s the difference?
Why are fans hungry for the ladder season to begin? There are a few key differences between the modes that made the ladder season very distinct for some.
First, a global leaderboard. When it’s a game of grinding, players love seeing where they stacks up against one another for their class and globally. Traditionally in Classic, the leaderboards allowed players to see how they were doing in the race to level 99 against others.
Secondly and maybe more importantly, runewords. For the launch of Diablo 2 Resurrected, crafting runewords was enabled for the non-ladder play. Traditionally in Classic Diablo, runewords were not available to be crafted in non-ladder play. That’s not to say they didn’t exist though. Once a ladder season ends and a new one begins, all the characters on ladder are moved to non-ladder. The runewords that were crafted on the ladder season are now available on non-ladder. Players keep their ladder-specific items and can trade them, new ones just can’t be crafted.
At the end of the day, Diablo is all about the grind and a large chunk of the player base love the timely nature of the ladder.
How long are Ladder Seasons?
While the official length of a Ladder season hasn’t been confirmed by Blizzard yet, we can assume it will be taking the same as traditional Diablo II. After all, it’s a remaster of the game. Traditionally, ladder seasons in Diablo 2 lasted six months. Some fans have speculations that ladder seasons in Diablo 2 Resurrected will only last four months, but nothing has been confirmed by the developers as of yet.
The latest update from Blizzard means the fan speculation was correct. Diablo 2 Resurrected ladder seasons will last four months according to the developers.
