Jungle Rammus Build, Runes, and Guide – Wild Rift

Rammus has rolled his way onto the rift adding another tank Jungler to Wild Rift. While we don’t quite know if he is going to be ‘S Tier’ in the Tier list yet, or just be ‘OK’, he seems to be promising. He’s gone through some changes, but his basics are still there. He is an incredible ganker and a solid pick if you’re facing a team with a lot of AD. Let’s just right into the Jungle Rammus build for Wild Rift.

Jungle Rammus Guide

Rammus Runes

  • Aftershock
    • A must-have for Rammus. It grants bonus armor and magic resistance for 2.5 seconds after immobilizing a champion. After the bonus resistances wear off, it releases a shockwave dealing damage that scales with your max health.
  • Weakness
    • Another rune that works off your crowd control (CC) which Rammus’ kit is full of. Increases the damage dealt to enemies while their movement is impaired.
  • Hunter Titan
    • Grants bonus health and tenacity (CC Resist) for each unique champion killed. The bonus HP is nice, but the extra 20% tenacity is even better.
  • Mastermind
    • Deals bonus true damage to epic monsters (Dragons and Baron) and to turrets to help take them down quicker. When taking down those objectives you’re also given extra gold and experience.

Rammus Spells

  • Smite
    • Obviously if you’re going to play Jungle, you need Smite. When it comes to upgrading your Smite, I go Blue so you can slow enemies and make sure they have no way of escaping.
  • Flash
    • Most champions whether on your team or your enemy will be taking Flash to get themselves out of sticky situations. I like taking it on Rammus as well to finish off any enemies that might flash over a wall. It’s also come in clutch many times when having to flash over the Dragon or Baron pit to get a Smite off for the steal.

Rammus Abilities

  • PassiveRolling Armordillo – While out of combat gain 32 Movement speed, increased to 96 during Powerball. Exit combat after not taking damage or using abilities for 5 second.
  • Powerball (1)– Enables Rolling Armordillo and accelerates up to 100% bonus movement speed over 6 seconds. Colliding with an enemy deals magic damage in an area, knocking back and slowing enemies by 40% for 1 second. Activating cancels Defensive Ball Curl and puts it on cooldown.
  • Defensive Ball Curl (2) – Passive: Attacks deal bonus magic damage that scales with armor. Active: Brace for up to 6 seconds, slowing Rammus by 30% while gaining armor and magic resist. While curled, Spiked Shell deals 50% more damage and also applies to enemies that attack Rammus.
  • Frenzying Taunt (3) – Taunts an enemy champion or monster for 1.25 seconds and gain 50% attack speed for 5 seconds.
  • Soaring Slam (Ultimate) – Hop into the air and slam down, dealing magic damage and creating aftershocks for 4 seconds. Soaring Slam’s range increases with movement speed. Aftershock damages structures.

Skill Progression

Start the game with a point in Defensive Ball Curl (2) to help with your initial clear speed. At level two put a point in Powerball (1) to move around the map quicker. At level three put a point in Frenzying Taunt (3) which starts to make ganking much easier. After that, I put one other point in Defensive Ball Curl (2) just to speed up clear speed, then max out Powerball (1). After that, I max out Frenzying Taunt (3) for reduced cooldown and a longer taunt.

Rammus Tips and Tricks

  • Keep in mind your Defensive Ball Curl (2) will slow you down. If you’re chasing down an enemy turn it off.
  • Your ultimate great for team fights that break out in small areas, especially the Dragon or Baron pit.
  • Remember your ultimate can deal damage to towers!
  • When looking to gank lanes, make sure not to use your Powerball too early just to get to the lane quicker. You’ll want to use it to initiate and get the knock up.
  • Your ultimate’s range scales with movement speed, so utilize your Powerball and Glorious enchantment to engage from further distances.

Rammus Counters and Hard Match Ups

Counters

  • Olaf – Olaf’s ultimate breaking crowd control (CC), his slow, and the true damage in his kit makes it a hard match up for Rammus.
  • Amumu – The sad mummy’s tears do a percentage of max health, which is never good for tanks.
  • Dr. Mundo – Outheals any damage you can put down and does a percentage of your max health with his low cooldown Cleaver.
