How to reset character skills and stats in Diablo 2 Resurrected

Every time your character levels up in Diablo 2 Resurrected you’re awarded with five stat points and one skill point to distribute as you please. Sometimes a build which is great for Normal and Nightmare might seem underwhelming when you enter Hell, so rerolling your character is a must. Unfortunately, there are limited free chances you have to do this so you’ll need to choose wisely. Let’s take a look at all of the ways you can respec your character stats and skills.

How to respec your character in D2R

The Den of Evil Quest

The easiest method to earn a free reroll on your character is by completing the Den of Evil quest in Act 1. Not only does this allow you to respec your character, finishing the quest also grants you one extra skill point.

This is the very first quest in the game, and can be completed once per difficulty (Normal, Nightmare, and Hell), for a total of three resets and three extra skill points.

Completing the quest is simple. Walk out of the Rogue Encampment in Act 1, follow the path until you reach the Den of Evil, and kill every monster in the Den. Return to Akara in Act 1 once all of the monsters in the Den are slain and you’ll be presented with the option to “Reset Stat/Skill Points”. Once you click this option, your stats will reset to the base stats of your character class and you’ll be refunded all of the points you have allocated (five per character level you are). You’ll also have your skill tree reset and refunded.

Token of Absolution

If you have wasted all of your resets via the Den of Evil quest, you’re not completely out of luck. Another way of resetting your character stats is by using a ‘Token of Absolution’.

The token can be used an unlimited number of times, but it also requires collecting four materials from act bosses in the Hell difficulty. To create the Token of Absolution, transmute all of the essences together in the Horadric Cube. You’ll need the following essences.

  • Twisted Essence of Suffering (dropped by Hell Andariel and Hell Duriel. 1:14 and 1:7 odds respectively)
  • Charged Essence of Hatred (dropped by Hell Mephisto, 1:17 odds)
  • Burning Essence of Terror (dropped by Hell Diablo, 1:17 odds)
  • Festering Essence of Destruction (dropped by Hell Baal, 1:17 odds)

The odds for essence drops are increased on your ‘quest drop’ (the first time your character kills each boss), but are not affected by increased magic find.

Once you’ve created a Token of Absolution, simply right click it to immediately reset all of your character’s skill and stat points.
