Best places to find a Shako in Diablo 2 Resurrected

The Harlequin Crest, often referred to as a ‘Shako’ in Diablo 2 Resurrected is one of the best helmets in the game. It can fit builds for multiple classes, provides damage reduction, increased skills, and most importantly – adds a nice magic finding bonus. We’re sure you know all about it, but how do you go about finding one of these Shako helmets yourself? There are a few monsters you should be killing that have better odds than others. Below is a list of the best places to farm to find a Shako.

Shako Item Level and Stats

When it comes to finding specific items, there are certain things you should be looking out for. ‘Item level’ and ‘area level’, or what we will call ‘monster level’. Each item in the game has a specific item level assigned to it and each area has a specific monster level. You’re unable to see these yourself in the game, but luckily we have over 20 years of knowledge to go off of from Classic Diablo 2.

In order for certain items to be dropped, monsters need to be a minimum level that matches or is higher than the item’s level. Generally, most of the items you’ll want in your end-game build are higher item level, meaning you need to kill higher monster levels to get them. This is also why you will progressively see better items being dropped as you progress through the game. Generally, monsters progress in their levels as you get further along in the game and into new difficulties – with a few caveats for certain areas.

The Harlequin Crest, AKA Shako, has an item level of 69.

Best monsters to kill that drop Shako

Because the Shako has an item level of 69, you’ll need to be killing a monster with the same or higher level in order for it to be possible to drop. But there are a few monsters that have much better odds of it dropping than anything else. All of the odds listed below are with 0 magic finding on your character and increase exponentially with the more magic finding you have and odd number of players in the game.

Mephisto Shako Drop Rate

Mephisto is the final boss in Act 3 and has the highest chance to drop a Shako. However, it can only be dropped in the ‘Hell’ difficulty. If you’re the only player in the game with zero magic finding, you will have a 1 and 1,338 chance of Mephisto dropping a Shako if you’re killing her for the quest and a 1 and 2,035 chance of it dropping killing her off the quest.

These odds rise considerably the more magic finding you have and the more players you have in the game (the player odds cap at 7). For example, if you have 6 others in the game with you (7 players in total) and 200 magic finding, the odds are 1 and 564 for a Shako drop on quest and 1 in 879 off quest.

Diablo Shako Drop Rate

Diablo in Hell difficulty has the second best odds of dropping a Harlequin Crest Shako at 1 in 1,376 on the quest and 1 in 2,091 off the quest. These odds are assuming you are the only person in the game and have a total of zero magic finding on your character.

Baal Shako Drop Rate

Not too surprisingly, it’s another boss that comes in third place for the best chances of finding a Shako. But there’s a caveat! Baal is also capable of dropping a Shako in the Nightmare difficulty.

In Hell, Baal has a chance of dropping a Shako of 1 in 1,389 for the quest and 1 in 2,111 off quest.

In Nightmare, the chances drop a good amount, but it’s still possible. On the quest you’re looking at 1 in 1,549 and 1 in 2,359 off the quest.

Cow King and Rakanishu

Bosses aren’t the only ones who can drop a Shako, but the odds dwindle. If you’re able to kill the Cow King in Hell difficulty, you’ll have a 1 in 7,473 chance of him dropping a Shako.

But there’s some good news! You know that little blue guy right outside of Tristram that you’ll need to pass in order to get Wirt’s Leg to create the Secret Cow Portal? That’s Rakanishu, and he also has a chance of dropping a Shako at 1 in 24,882.

These odds might seem unrealistic, but remember all of these listed are assuming you have zero magic finding on your character and are the only person in the game. The odds grow considerably with the more magic finding you have!
