How to counter Akali in Wild Rift

Akali is one of the most picked assassins in Wild Rift and can be a pain to play against, especially if you’re a squishy champion. Between her dashes, consistent healing, and insane burst damage she’ll make you want to pull your hair out. Luckily, Wild Rift has introduced bans but sometimes Akali slips through. If that’s the case, there are a few key things you should know when it comes to playing against Akali and how to counter her.

Champions that counter Akali

The easiest thing to do counter Akali is pick a champion she does poorly against. Obviously if you’re not facing her in lane, that’s not always possible. We’ll explore general tips and tricks for countering Akali later on in the article. For now, here’s a list of champions that counter Akali in Wild Rift.

  • Galio
  • Twisted Fate
  • Annie
  • Pantheon
  • Zed
  • Yasuo
  • Fizz
  • Irelia

Tips for countering Akali

If you’re not able to pick a direct counter to Akali, there are still some things you should know when playing against her.

Itemization

  • Mercury Treads – the added magic resistance will reduce her damage a fair bit for a cheap price.
  • Morellonomicon – If you’re playing a mage champion, you’ll want to make sure to pick this item up to reduce Akali’s healing
  • Gluttonous Stasis – This active makes you invulnerable and untargetable for 2.5 seconds, but use it wisely. Akali’s ultimate does significant damage, so you’ll often want activate it during that time

Play Style Tips

It’s important to know how Akali’s kit works in order to play against her effectively. If you’re playing a champion with ranged auto attacks, try to abuse her in the early levels before she hits level 3.

Her Five Point Strike (1) ability has a very short cooldown and allows her to push the wave quickly. This will be Akali’s primary way of last hitting in the early stage. If you do get hit by it, do not let her get an auto attack onto you or else she’ll do extra damage.

As she levels up and gets her (2) and (3) abilities, you’ll want to try and hide behind minions so she can’t engage on you with her (3). A good Akali will often try to dish a bit of damage out and retreat in her cloud (2) to safety to win trades. Once you are low health, watch out for her ultimate as it can not only be used as a gap close, but also does significant damage. Her utlimate does have two charges which she can use to finish off a kill or retreat to safety.
