Best Class to play in Deep Rock Galactic

Deep Rock Galactic feels like a beautiful mix of Borderlands and Minecraft – if it weren’t a sandbox. It’s a cooperative first person shooter that sets you on various missions that involve mining and slaughtering enemies. It can be played solo or in a group of up to four players. Each player chooses one of the four classes available in the game prior to setting off on their mission.

While you can have more than one of the same class when it comes to co-op, it’s often best to choose different ones. When it comes to solo game play, it’s a whole different ball park. Let’s dive right in and look at the best class to play in Deep Rock Galactic.

The best class in Deep Rock Galactic

So what is the best class to choose? The short answer to this question is really “there is none”. They all have different functions and it really depends on the type of player and how you enjoy playing the game. As each person enjoys a different style of playing, the choice is yours as they’re all viable. In order to aid your choice, we’ll be looking at what each class excels at.

Gunner

The gunner is the class everyone starts out playing when going through the tutorial. It’s very much a combat related class that can take on swarms of enemies in a no-nonsense type of way. His weapon is powerful and his shield provides a nice safe bubble to negate damage which can also be thrown down to revive allies.

His zipline is incredibly useful when it comes to traversing crazy terrain and getting objectives in hard to reach places.

Driller

The Drillers main weapon, Flame Thrower is great for swarmers and grunts. The freeze grenade is helpful against flying bugs. Driller is overall very mobile. His drill allows you to create favorable terrain for fights and can help get you out of sticky situations. He’s especially useful for missions that require a lot of excavating like ‘Egg Hunt’.

He can easily create shortcuts to dig to any resource in no time, get to teammates quickly if they’re needing assistance, and is overall a solid class.

Scout

The Scout is one of the most mobile classes in Deep Rock Galactic. When it comes to fighting against swarms, his kit isn’t great compared to other classes. He excels more at kiting single target monsters like spitters or big bugs. He’s a solid pick for any out of reach objectives and his Cryo grenades will instantly kill flying bugs.

If you want to be everywhere at once, this class is for you. Scout can go explore on his own and quickly return to his teammates with his grapple. A solid choice if you’re looking to get to the hard-to-reach areas.

Engineer

If you’re the type of player that likes to deal damage without having to aim, Engineer will be your class. The main source of damage comes from his Turrets which you simply place and they do the rest of the work.

Overall, Engineer is quite versatile. He is equipped with slows and can lure enemies away. The platforms you can create helps with point defense and lets you get to harder to reach places. There are a lot of nuances with Engineer and you can get very strategic with how he’s played.
